The Start Tribune launches on Pugpig Bolt

The Star Tribune – the eighth largest newspaper in the US and Minnesota’s largest newspaper – has launched their brand new app on Pugpig Bolt.

The daily newspaper launched their app as part of ‘a new era of technology growth’ and saw an impressive 25,000 downloads in the first 24 hours after going live in app stores.

Taking just 11 weeks, the app launched in unbelievably quick timing for a large national newspaper, leveraging a range of Bolt’s out-of-the-box components to ensure a quick launch, including timeline layouts plugin and in-article video.

And the Star Tribune team is already thinking about how they can take the app to the next level. Chief Product Officer, Aron Pilhofer, said:

“We aim to offer more features to enrich the experience of getting news from the Star Tribune. Greater personalization, new story forms and better integration of audio and video content are just a few examples on our roadmap.”

“We turned to Pugpig to rebuild our native apps on an incredibly tight deadline, and boy did they deliver! Response from users has been almost uniformly positive, and engagement is through the roof. Couldn’t be happier with our decision to go with Pugpig.”

Pugpig Commercial Director, Dom Easter, said:

“What we’ve achieved with The Star Tribune team over such an ambitious deadline is nothing short of fantastic. The app looks amazing and it’s impressive to see so many of Bolt’s off-the-shelf features and plugins in action.”

The Star Tribune is the latest national US news media brand to launch their app on Pugpig Bolt, joining The Boston Globe and Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which both went live earlier this year.
