Advance Local, one of the largest media groups in the US, has launched 23 mobile apps across three major markets on Pugpig Bolt in a significant stride towards digital transformation.
Having recently ceased print operations across a number of titles, Advance Local needed a robust digital subscription model, with the new apps at the heart of their proposition.
This is where Pugpig Bolt came in – we launched all 23 apps on an incredibly tight deadline, kicking off in September 2024 and successfully rolling out in three tranches across December and January 2025.
Our friends at X-Cago majorly improved the PDF conversion workflow, reducing workload for the Advance Local team and ultimately ensuring a frictionless reader experience no matter what.
A morning and afternoon edition has long been a firm favourite for loyal readers of The Oregonian. Using our intuitive Timeline Layouts functionality, we breathed a new lease of life into the afternoon edition front page.
We replicated the traditional print newspaper’s front page with a print-like HTML edition cover, allowing for twice-daily updates on the day’s front page stories and the flexibility to refresh morning stories in afternoon editions. While this is currently only live for The Oregonian, Advance Local has plans to roll it out across multiple titles later on in the year.
Blending new and existing integrations with the Bolt platform, the apps leverage Auth0 for authentication and Legacy.com to pull obituaries directly into the app in digital format.
